Fishing Multiple Fly Patterns

Fishing with two (or more) fly patterns at the same time increases your chances of a strike just by virtue of the fact that you will have more bait in the water, but it’s also a good way to experiment when fishing an unfamiliar body of water, or when you’re not sure what fly pattern is working better on a given day.

Rigging a Dropper Fly allows you to fish at two different water levels at the same time, with different fly patterns at each depth. It’s a good way to find the depth where the fish are holding or what fly pattern is “hot” today.

You can try multiple sub-surface flies together, or combine a dry fly with an emerger or a nymph.
