Making Line Weight Selections
A lot of things determine the best line weight to use when fly fishing.
Probably the most expensive mistake you could make would be to use only the manufacturer’s recommended line weight for a given rod. If you do that, you’ll need to own a different rod for fishing each change in current or wind conditions. Switching to a different line size is much cheaper.
Going to a lighter fly line is often better than switching to a longer leader in slow current, and with the right technique can also be the answer to longer casts into the wind.
